Maya was born and raised in Colorado where she graduated magna cum laude from Colorado State
University in 2022 with a degree in International Relations and Spanish. She had the wonderful
opportunity to live abroad in Sevilla, Spain where her love for language and culture began. She went on
to utilize her Spanish proficiency to create meaningful opportunity and change for her community and
was an active member of Fuerza Latina throughout college, where she took part in the creation of an
immigrant lead cooperative. Upon graduation, Maya continued to serve her community through an
initial career in adult education with an emphasis on ESL and basic literacy instruction. She is thrilled to
continue her career with the Florence Project and hopes to serve as a resource for empowerment,
equity and the protection of human rights.
In Maya’s free time she enjoys traveling, racing mountain bikes, skiing, and long walks with her fur baby,
Mabel. She would like to express her gratitude to The Florence Project for allowing her to work
alongside such an incredible community and looks forward to exploring all that Tucson has to offer.
Stay up to date with the Florence Project and our unwavering fight for immigrants' rights.
