We Will Fight Back

Today, President Trump made official the anti-immigrant policies he announced in a speech late last week. We stand firmly against the administration’s attempts to illegally restrict the ability of migrants to seek asylum. The right to seek asylum, regardless of whether one presents at a port of entry, is unambiguously protected by U.S. and international law.

Furthermore, we have heard that asylum seekers are being turned away at ports of entry and are forced to wait in potentially dangerous circumstances in Mexico, giving many migrants no choice but to cross the border between ports of entry. If this continues, today’s announcement is effectively a ban on asylum across the southern border.

As we said last week, the Florence Project condemns the administration’s ongoing and escalating attacks on those seeking refuge on our shores, and we stand with all immigrants in the fight for justice.

This hateful policy could also lead to an enormous increase in immigration detention for men, women, children, and families seeking asylum. As always, we will advocate for fair and humane immigration policy and for alternatives to detention.

For nearly 30 years, the Florence Project has been on the front lines of the fight for fair and humane immigration policies. No matter what obstacles our clients face, we stand by their side.

Today is no different. Please join us fighting for asylum seekers and providing free legal services to detained men, women, and children today.
