Evelin Cruz was born and raised in Tempe, Arizona. She attended Arizona State University where she graduated Cum Laude and received a B.A. in Transborder Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies (U.S. and Mexican Regional Immigration Policy and Economy) with a minor in Philosophy. During her time at ASU Evelin was heavily involved within the community. She served as President of the El Concilio Coalition which unites Latinx/Hispanic student organizations at ASU to represent the interests and needs, cultural awareness, professional development, and overall well being of the student population. Evelin also served on the Council of Coalitions, Sun Devil Leadership Council, and on the council of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. Her experiences working within the Latinx/Hispanic community fueled her passion for advocacy and nonprofit organization work. When Evelin is not busy advocating for her community, she enjoys hiking, dancing, and traveling. As a daughter of indigenous immigrants from Hidalgo, Mexico, Evelin has always felt a calling to serve these communities and is thrilled to be doing so with the Florence Project.
