After losing the only family she had in El Salvador and enduring violence while living with her uncle, Karla saw no choice but to embark on a courageous journey to the U.S. in search of safety and support.

We first met Karla in 2018 when she arrived and found a loving home with her cousin who she sees as a sister. Our legal and social services teams began working with her to help her secure the protection and stability she deserved.

The Florence Project helped her cousin secure guardianship in family court and connected her to school, English classes, medical care, and eventually obtained her Special Immigrant Juvenile Status and residency. We have been honored to stand beside her every step of the way.

Today, Karla is working, thriving, and has started college. Congratulations, Karla!
